A native of Iran, Shahla Talebi lived through a revolution (1979), over a decade of political imprisonment under two different regimes of the Shah and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and a period shaped by eight bloody years of War with Iraq between 1980 to 1988. She came to the United states in 1994 where her scholarly path has taken her from Community College, where she learned English and obtained an A.A,, to the University of California, Berkeley for a B.A. In sociocultural anthropology and on to Columbia University, where she received her PhD also in sociocultural anthropology in 2007. Since August 2007 she has been a faculty of religious studies in Arizona State University. Talebi's first book, Ghosts of Revolution: Rekindled memories of imprisonment, published in 2011 by Stanford University, has received theHonorable Mention in the Biography & Autobiography category in PROSE Awards in 2011 and Choice’s Outstanding Academic Title Award in that same year. She is currently in the final stage of completing a second manuscript for publication. She is interested in understanding violence, memory, mourning and trauma, and tracing the topographies and impasses of the Iranian Revolution of 1979 and its aftermath, she is particularly interested in the way people re-create new forms of life and community in the midst and in the aftermath of violence.

The International Workshop on Advanced Micromagnetics (IWAM) is a unique showcase for new and emerging techniques in the micromagnetic analysis of magnetic materials and devices. IWAM will be held at the Center for Magnetic Recording Research (CMRR, http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/) on the campus of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) on May 21-22, 2012. IWAM is scheduled to precede the 2012 CMRR Spring Review meeting held on May 24-25. All IWAM participants are welcome to attend the review meeting. IWAM brings together leading experts in computational and theoretical Micromagnetics from academia and industry. The workshop will include a single oral session of invited speakers (http://cem.ucsd.edu/IWAM12/speakers.html) and a poster session. This format is geared towards an informal atmosphere facilitating discussions and collaboration between the participants. More information can be found at http://cem.ucsd.edu/IWAM12. The submission deadline is April 29, 2012. Submissions should be emailed to Prof. Vitaliy Lomakin (vlomakin@eng.ucsd.edu). The submission abstract template can be found at http://cem.ucsd.edu/IWAM12/submissions.html TOPICS • Advanced theoretical models in Micromagnetics • Multiscale modeling • Advanced computational models in Micromagnetics • High-performance numerical techniques in Micromagnetics • Selected applications of micromagnetic modeling to magnetic materials and devices
